Adult Pet Wellness

Picture
Bringing you pet in for an annual wellness check up is very important to your pet's health.  Seeing your vet on a regular basis will reassures you your pet is healthy; it also helps us to detect hidden diseases or conditions early.  Early detection can improve the prognosis of many diseases, keep medical costs down and help your pet live a long healthy life.
Many dogs and cats are good at hiding signs that something is wrong, it's part of their survival instincts... only the strong survive in the wild.  Subtle changes in their health or behavior could be easy to overlook, and depending on the disease or condition they may not show symptoms at all.

Dogs and cats age quicker than humans with dogs at the age 6-8 they are considered seniors, cats at the age of 10 will enter into their senior years.  With quicker aging it is more crucial for our companions animals to receive regular exams.  Conditions like arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hormone disorders, kidney and liver problems will all increase with age, if detected earlier in life they will have a better prognosis.

What to expect

During your pet's wellness exam, we will perform a physical exam checking your pet from nose to tail.  The vet will be able to determine if there is anything of concern and may make some recommendations.  Annual Wellness exams are generally done around vaccine due dates and/or parasite prevention season.  At this time, we perform a diagnostic work up which might include blood work, fecal and urine tests to check for parasites and any underlying disease.  The vet will make any recommendations that your pet might in order to keep them happy and healthy.

When your pet is nearing their senior years, we will do more of a diagnostic work up.  Doing this routinely gives us a baseline and understanding what is normal for you pet.  This allows us to monitor closely as they age, to catch when their values for example like kidney and liver are not in normal range.  Offering us the opportunity to detect these diseases and conditions early, better prognosis, keeping medical costs down and help your pet live a longer healthier life.

Please let us know if you have noticed any physical or behavioral changes in your pet's and certainly any other concerns you might have.  Call us or email us today and schedule your pets wellness exam
