Radiology

When we need to figure out what is wrong with your pet; a great diagnostic tool is X-rays.  This will help us to identify the cause of the problem, rule out problems or provide us with more information of possible causes.  We may also use X-rays during a wellness exam to diagnose potential problems like Hip Dysplasia.  This gives us a baseline which is a great tool for us to monitor progression of Dysplasia of your pet in the future.

X-rays can provide valuable information about your pet's skeletal system, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory, heart and genitournary (kidney's, Bladder).  We will use radiographs alone or in conjunction with other diagnostic tools, depending on your pets issues.  Interpretation of radiographs require great skill from the vet and we also have radiologists we can send your x-rays to if the vet feels they need a 2nd opinion.

At Westmount we have digital radiographs for full body and dental.  The benefits of digital radiographs is they are very fast allowing us to get a quick diagnosis for your pet.  They are also safer, using less radiation than traditional x-ray machines.  In order to get a good x-ray your pet must stay completely still, in some cases we might need to sedate your pet to keep them calm and still through the x-ray procedure.
