Dr. Matt Shany
Matt has always wanted to work with animals, he started his journey as a teenager at Chinguacousy Animal Farm in Brampton. He was accepted into the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 and graduated in 1999.
He went on and practiced in mixed animals up north in Markdale and Midland area for 2 years, but his heart truly belonged to dogs and cats. Matt went on to work in a small animal practice in Mississauga; but being in love with the Guelph area he really wanted to move his career in this direction.
Dr. Shany has a very keen interest in Surgery and dentistry. He also very much enjoys talking to and working with clients; helping them take care of their furry, family friends. He does have a very special spot for kittens and being very much a cat lover. Over the years he has rescued a number of stray or injured cats and provided them with a loving home. Currently he has two beautiful Devon Rexes named “Ozzy” and “Kevin” and a handsome French bulldog named “Beau”.
Outside of work Matt has a very busy family life with his wife Lesley and their 2 children, Alyssa and Parker. Dr. Shany is an avid hockey player and also enjoys mountain biking, camping, golfing and hiking with his family.
Dr. Laura Teminski
Dr. Laura joined the Westmount Animal Hospital team in July 2019. She has spent the past year up in the Quinte West region but has decided to finally return home. Dr. Laura grew up in the north end of Kitchener and first pursued her dream of being a veterinarian through her high school co-op. Surprisingly enough, this is also when she first met Dr. Matt at Westmount Animal Hospital. From there she moved to Guelph to complete an Undergraduate degree in Animal Biology and then completed her dream of becoming a Veterinarian from the Ontario Veterinary College.
Dr. Laura is really interested in feline-specific medicine, soft tissue surgery and orthopedics. She also participated in the Fear Free initiative, and is currently completing her level 2 certification. The aspect she loves the most about being a veterinarian is creating connections with her patients and clients; to be a support system and friend through all the journeys of a pet’s life.
On a personal note; Dr. Laura is currently residing with her boyfriend Marc and her very talkative tabby cat, Eleanor aka Ellie. Ellie was rescued from a friend’s barn up in Belleville after she had weaned off a litter of kittens. To say the least, Ellie definitely runs the household. Dr. Laura is a big traveller and loves to see the world. When at home Dr. Laura enjoys playing soccer, volleyball, building puzzles and sitting down with a good book.
